Accountability
It was about six years ago when I started taking fitness seriously. From boxing to running, I’ve made working out a priority; it has to get done. Sometimes I’m not as consistent but for the most part, it’s a habit. For the times when I need to kick it into high gear, I’ve been able to find people to help me get to where I want to be.
Accountability…
In January, a couple of my fitness friends and I decided to do a 100-mile running challenge. Others joined, and it was cool to see everyone’s updates on IG because they kept us saying, “Yeah…I need to get out there and run…even though it’s winter”. Fortunately, the weather wasn’t that bad as far as snow, rain, and ice were concerned (I hate running in rain…ugh). But even if it was, we would’ve finished the challenge because we all committed to cross that finish line. A plus? My holiday weight from the last couple months is nearly gone! I’m not trying to buy new work clothes because my pants don’t fit. LOL.
This particular challenge helped me a lot because I was furloughed most of January (yeah). Although it was an unnerving and stressful time, it kept some consistency in my life. I didn’t know when I would be able to go back to work, but I knew that I had miles to run. The encouragement to keep running provided a sort of reward. I knew that Traci and Grace—and others on IG—would be checking in. If they were running, I was running.
Good peer pressure…
If you haven’t already, find you a person or a few who will keep you accountable. They need to be as serious about your goals as you are. When you ask them to hold you to it, don’t expect a weak effort on their part. The point is to help each other when we don’t feel like doing what we said we were going to do—especially when it’s 17 degrees outside.
